MICROCEMENT USA MICRO-QUARTZ MIXING PROCEDURE

(Applies to Medium, or Coarse versions)

Important Note: For Arctic, Midnight, or any RAL colors, start at Step 6.

1. PAIRING Pair each 13.2 lb (6 kg) bucket of Micro-Quartz with one powdered pigment pot (e.g., one bucket of Coarse paired with one Feather 2 pigment pot).

2. DISSOLVE THE PIGMENT Add clean, cold water to the powdered pigment pot to dissolve the powder completely. Shake vigorously to create a smooth slurry with no lumps. Recommended water amounts for most colors:

  • “1” color intensity: 3.5 oz (100 g) of water
  • “2” color intensity: 5.3 oz (150 g) of water
  • “3” color intensity: 7.1 oz (200 g) of water

Some deeper or more intense colors (such as Seaweed or Anthracite) may require slightly more water to fully dissolve the pigment. Add just enough additional water to achieve a consistent slurry, keeping the total weight uniform within the same job or batch.

3. COMBINE THE PIGMENT SLURRY Pour the entire shaken pigment slurry into the Micro-Quartz bucket. Use the same consistent scraping method to remove every bit of slurry from each pigment pot to maintain even color across the entire batch.

4. MIX THOROUGHLY Use a paddle mixer to blend the pigment into the Micro-Quartz. Pause regularly to scrape the sides and bottom of the bucket, ensuring no unpigmented material remains.

5. REST & REBIND After fully mixing in all pigment slurries, allow the material to rest for at least 30 minutes (ideally prepare the day before application). The mixture will thicken and become less pourable — this is normal and means it’s ready. The prepared Micro-Quartz can stay in this state throughout its shelf life.

6. ARCTIC, MIDNIGHT, OR RAL COLORS When you’re ready to apply, add the required hardener according to the mix ratio (916:84) — or simply use one full 17.6 oz (500 g) bottle of hardener per 12.1 lb (5.5 kg) bucket. Mix thoroughly with a paddle mixer, scraping the sides and bottom to ensure complete integration.

7. ADD WATER FOR APPLICATION Once the base material and hardener are fully combined, add the desired amount of water based on your application technique. Mix again with the paddle mixer, scraping the sides and bottom for uniformity.

Recommended water amounts per 2.2 lb (1 kg) of material:

  • Walls: 0.7–1.4 oz (20–40 g) (Use lower amounts for better coverage and packing on first/top coats)
  • Floors:
    • Coarse first coat: 1.1–1.8 oz (30–50 g) — adjust based on coverage needed
    • Coarse top coat: 2.8–3.5 oz (80–100 g)
    • Medium: 1.1–3.2 oz (30–90 g)

Your Micro-Quartz is now ready for application.
