Why microcement works in bathrooms
  • 01

    Complete wet-area system

A waterproof membrane goes under the finish, so showers, wet rooms, and tub surrounds stay watertight.

  • 02

No grout lines, no mold traps

Seamless from wall to floor. Nothing for mildew to grow in, and nothing to scrub.

  • 03

    Goes over old tile

2–3mm over your existing tile or cement board. Most bathrooms get done with no demo.

  • 04

    One look, the whole room

Floor, walls, shower, and vanity in one continuous finish. A calm, modern, spa feel.

What is a microcement bathroom?

Before water exposure: Allow at least two weeks (14 days) after the final sealer coat before exposing the surface to water. Recoat or touch-dry times do not mean the surface is ready for water exposure. Follow any longer cure period required by the product instructions or jobsite conditions. This does not approve permanent pool submersion.

A seamless, waterproof finish for the whole room.

Microcement is a thin cement coating applied over a suitable prepared substrate. Showers and wet areas require the specified complete assembly, including waterproofing, drainage, penetrations, joints and sealer. Confirm the chosen system for your project.

Because it's seamless, there are no grout lines collecting soap scum and mildew. You get one clean, continuous surface across the floor, walls, shower, and vanity, in the warm concrete look people are asking for.

Microcement bathroom FAQ

Common questions about microcement bathrooms.

Is microcement waterproof for showers and bathrooms?

Microcement can be specified for showers using an approved complete wet-area assembly. Waterproofing membranes, drainage, penetrations, joints and sealer must follow the project specification and applicable requirements.

Can microcement go over existing bathroom tile?

Yes. It bonds over existing tile, drywall, cement board, and concrete at 2–3mm, so most bathrooms get done with no demolition and the old grout lines simply disappear.

Does it get moldy or hold mildew?

The finish eliminates tile grout lines and is straightforward to clean. Required joints still need maintenance; ventilation, cleaning and moisture control remain important.

How do you maintain it?

Wipe it down with a pH-neutral cleaner: no harsh chemicals. Reseal every few years depending on use. With no grout to scrub, upkeep is simpler than tile.

How much does a microcement bathroom cost?

Installed pricing from certified installers usually runs $30 to $75+ per square foot depending on the surfaces, prep, and finish. Going over existing tile often saves on demo and disposal.
